Overview

The U.S. Embassy Kigali is recruiting a Public Health Administrative Specialist (Senior Professional Advisor) for the FDA Africa Regional Office. This is a full-time, permanent position open to all interested candidates.

Salary: RWF 28,378,593 – RWF 46,065,189 per year
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week
Security Clearance: Public Trust (background investigation required)

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Professional Advisor will:

  • Serve as policy advisor and analyst for the FDA Africa Regional Office Director
  • Analyze African Union (AU) policy and provide guidance on FDA-regulated products, including drugs, biologics, medical devices, food safety, and veterinary medicine
  • Support African Medicines Agency (AMA) operationalization
  • Develop strategies to prevent adverse public health impacts
  • Facilitate U.S.-AU cooperation on public health issues
  • Provide strategic assessments and advice to senior FDA officials
  • Maintain contacts within AU institutions to address policy developments

Promotion Potential: LE-10

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public/Global Health, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, or International/Public Policy

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years working with public health or regulatory policy organizations

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects independently
  • Draft reports and analyses in English quickly and clearly
  • Present effectively and communicate orally in English
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong presentation skills

Language Requirements:

  • Fluent English (Level IV speaking, reading, writing)

Security & Eligibility:

  • Must obtain Public Trust clearance
  • Must begin work within 2 weeks of authorization
