Role
Purpose
The Accounts Receivable
Accountant plays a critical role in MTN Rwanda’s revenue cycle. The
position is responsible for invoicing, collections, cash application,
reconciliations, and revenue reporting, ensuring all receivables are
accurate, compliant, and collected on time.
The role supports financial
reporting, cash-flow forecasting, and compliance with IFRS 15 revenue
recognition standards, making it essential to the company’s financial
health.
Key
Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitor customer accounts for outstanding balances and
overdue payments.
- Follow up with customers professionally to ensure
timely invoice settlement.
- Maintain accurate Accounts Receivable ageing schedules
and ledgers.
- Identify, flag, and escalate long-outstanding or
high-risk receivables.
- Work closely with Sales, Billing, Customer Service, and
Credit Control teams to resolve disputes.
- Provide month-on-month revenue movement analysis across
all revenue streams.
- Report month-end revenues (Postpaid, Prepaid, Digital,
and Fintech) and post journals accurately in the ERP system.
- Ensure compliance with IFRS 15 in all revenue recognition
activities.
- Generate and issue invoices in line with contracts and
billing cycles.
- Prepare and manage credit notes, debit notes, and
billing adjustments.
- Process customer payments (bank transfers, mobile
money, and receipts) and apply them correctly.
- Reconcile Accounts Receivable balances on a regular
basis.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial
closing processes.
- Prepare AR reports including ageing analysis, cash-flow
forecasts, collections performance, and bad-debt risk indicators.
- Provide management with key metrics such as Days
Sales Outstanding (DSO) and collections efficiency.
Required
Experience & Skills
- 2–4 years
of experience in Accounts Receivable or general accounting.
- Strong understanding of invoicing, collections,
reconciliations, and AR controls.
- Good knowledge of financial reporting and revenue
accounting.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot
tables, lookups, data analysis).
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking.
- Excellent communication and customer-handling skills.
- Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven
environment.
Education
& Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a
related discipline.
- Progress toward a professional qualification such as ACCA,
CPA, or equivalent is a strong advantage.
