Overview
Position Title: IT Officer
Institution: King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation (KFHRF)
Secondment: Africa Health Sciences University (AHSU)
Location: Kigali, Rwanda (with frequent travel to regional teaching
sites)
Contract Type: Full-Time
Deadline: 26 December 2025
The IT Officer will support the
planning, development, and maintenance of technology infrastructure across
AHSU’s academic and clinical environments. You will ensure seamless digital
learning, secure networks, efficient ICT systems, and high-quality support for
faculty, residents, and students.
Key Responsibilities
This role is diverse and impactful,
covering six major areas:
A.
ICT Infrastructure Development & Maintenance
You will strengthen and maintain the
university’s core digital systems by:
- Designing and managing networks, servers, firewalls,
and connectivity solutions.
- Conducting technology needs assessments across
classrooms, offices, teaching hospitals, and simulation centers.
- Creating ICT guidelines, security frameworks, and
maintenance plans.
- Installing routers, switches, cables, and hardware to
ensure secure, stable operations.
This ensures AHSU runs on a modern,
scalable ICT infrastructure.
B.
Academic & Digital Learning Support
Digital education is at the heart of
AHSU. Your responsibilities include:
- Teaching Digital Health and IT modules to students and
faculty.
- Managing digital learning platforms (LMS, online exam
systems, student portals).
- Supporting virtual teaching tools and telemedicine
training platforms like Proximie.
- Ensuring stable digital teaching setups for residency
and midwifery rotations across partner hospitals.
- Facilitating online assessments, digital classrooms,
and simulation technology.
This role directly enhances the
quality of medical education in Rwanda.
C.
User Support & Technical Assistance
You will be the go-to IT expert for
the entire university:
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, AV equipment, and
network issues.
- Offer hands-on support to staff, students, visitors,
and faculty.
- Deliver training on digital tools, ICT security, and
academic technologies.
- Provide responsive customer service and daily IT
assistance.
Your support ensures smooth teaching,
research, and administration.
D.
Data Security & Compliance
Safeguarding university and clinical
data is essential:
- Implement cybersecurity procedures and user-access
policies.
- Protect sensitive records including student data,
research materials, and exam content.
- Ensure compliance with international data protection
and ICT regulations.
Security and confidentiality are top
priorities.
E.
Hardware & Software Management
Efficient device and software
management ensures uninterrupted operations:
- Oversee procurement, installation, configuration, and
repair of ICT devices.
- Maintain a detailed inventory of all IT assets.
- Manage licenses, upgrades, cloud storage, and antivirus
systems.
- Plan hardware replacements and system lifecycle
updates.
Your work keeps the university's
technology modern and reliable.
F.
Support for University Events & Academic Activities
AHSU frequently holds academic and
clinical training events. You will:
- Provide technical support for OSCEs, MMIs, seminars,
workshops, and practical exams.
- Manage livestream equipment, audio-visual systems,
projection tools, and digital exam platforms.
- Ensure smooth functioning of hybrid and online learning
activities.
Website Management
The IT Officer will also maintain
the university’s digital presence:
- Update the official website with announcements, events,
and academic information.
- Upload multimedia content and maintain accessibility
and performance.
- Ensure backups, security, and optimization for user
experience.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
Requirements
To qualify, you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information
Systems, or related discipline.
- Master’s degree (strong advantage).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in IT
infrastructure, technical support, or system development.
- Experience with Learning Management Systems (Populi,
Google Classroom, Moodle, etc.).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity and data protection
policies.
- Experience in a health sciences or university
environment is required.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware, software, and
network issues.
- Ability to support Windows and MacOS systems.
- Experience with virtual learning tools and
communication platforms.
- Willingness to travel to teaching sites across Rwanda.
- Excellent command of English and Kinyarwanda.
Desirable
Skills
- Experience with digital examinations, OSCE/MMI
platforms, or tele-education technologies.
- Experience managing or implementing technology
projects.
