Position: Safety Specialist (Ground Operations &
Maintenance)
Location: Kigali International Airport (KIA)
Department: Compliance & Risk
Reports to: Safety Manager – Ground & Maintenance
This role is critical to ensuring
the safety of ground operations, cargo handling, and passenger
services. The Safety Specialist plays a central part in identifying
hazards, ensuring proper reporting, and driving continuous improvement across
all safety processes at RwandAir.
Job Purpose
The Safety Specialist ensures that
every activity on the ground—from loading cargo to handling passengers—is
executed with maximum safety, precision, and compliance. You will help maintain
a safe working environment by monitoring operations, identifying risks,
investigating incidents, and advising leaders on safety improvements.
This is a role for someone who
thinks ahead, acts decisively, and values accuracy.
Key Duties & Responsibilities

Safety Monitoring & Oversight
- Oversee and coordinate safety processes across ground
handling, cargo, and passenger operations.
- Ensure all operational teams follow approved safety
procedures and guidelines.

Hazard & Incident Reporting
- Ensure that all safety hazards, incidents, and
occurrences are reported in a timely manner.
- Follow up on corrective actions until full closure.

Audits & Inspections
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled safety inspections of
ground facilities, equipment, and operational procedures.
- Identify gaps and ensure compliance with regulatory
standards.

Investigations
- Assist in incident investigations for ground
operations.
- Prepare detailed analysis reports and recommend
preventive or corrective actions.

Risk Assessments
- Support risk assessments in ground operations,
identifying threats and proposing mitigation strategies.
- Track implementation and effectiveness of safety interventions.

Safety Advisory Role
- Offer independent safety insights to the Safety Manager
and Ground Operations leadership.
- Participate in Ground Operations Safety Action Group
(GOSAG) meetings and provide expert contributions.

Performance Reporting
- Produce safety performance dashboards, summaries, and
reports.
- Present trends, findings, and recommendations to the
Safety Manager.
Minimum Qualifications (Essential)
To qualify for this opportunity, you
must have:
- A Certificate or Diploma in Safety Management
Systems (SMS) or a closely related qualification.
- At least 2 years of experience in ground
operations in an airline or aviation environment.
- Strong knowledge of cargo, passenger, and ground
handling procedures.
- Proficiency in computer applications and experience
using safety reporting platforms.

- Occurrence Investigation & Documentation
- Understanding of RCARs, ICAO Standards, and IATA ISAGO
