Eligibility
Requirements
SURF 2026 applicants must meet the
following criteria:
- Undergraduate Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time
undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Purdue, another U.S.
institution, or an international university.
- First-Time Participation: SURF is primarily designed for first-time
participants. Second-time participation is possible with explicit mentor
support, but funding priority is given to first-time applicants.
- Semester Completion:
Must have completed at least one academic semester/quarter prior to
applying and maintain enrollment for at least one semester/quarter after
the program.
- Minimum GPA:
2.8/4.0 or equivalent.
- Participation Availability: Must be able to attend most program activities. Minor
schedule adjustments may be made with mentor approval.

- Academic CV or Resume
– Highlight relevant coursework, projects, internships, and achievements.
- Unofficial Transcript
– Include your most recent academic transcript.
- Letter of Recommendation – Required for non-Purdue students. Letters

SURF encourages applicants to

- Select up to three preferred projects in your
application.
- Check back frequently, as new projects are

Housing
and Travel Assistance
- Housing:
Students are responsible for securing housing. Options include Summer
Residences Housing and Summer Intern Housing.
- Housing Subsidy:
Non-Purdue students automatically receive $2,500. Purdue students must

- Travel Assistance:
Provided for participants traveling from another university to Purdue.
