Eligibility Requirements

SURF 2026 applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Undergraduate Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Purdue, another U.S. institution, or an international university.
  2. First-Time Participation: SURF is primarily designed for first-time participants. Second-time participation is possible with explicit mentor support, but funding priority is given to first-time applicants.
  3. Semester Completion: Must have completed at least one academic semester/quarter prior to applying and maintain enrollment for at least one semester/quarter after the program.
  4. Minimum GPA: 2.8/4.0 or equivalent.
  5. Participation Availability: Must be able to attend most program activities. Minor schedule adjustments may be made with mentor approval.
