1. Job Purpose
The Pumping Station Operator plays a
fundamental role in sustaining GAH’s irrigation operations.
Your core mission is to:
- Operate pumps safely and efficiently
- Monitor water distribution systems
- Maintain electromechanical equipment
- Ensure continuous water supply for farms and
agribusiness investors
- Prevent equipment failures by identifying issues early
This role requires technical expertise,
high attention to detail, proactive safety discipline, and strong operational
awareness.
2. Detailed Key Responsibilities
As a Pumping Station Operator, you
will be responsible for:
A.
Pump & System Operation
- Operate, start, and stop pumps according to the
irrigation schedule.
- Adjust pump speeds, valve positions, and flow settings
through manual or automated control panels.
- Monitor water pressure, flow rate, pump vibration,
temperature levels, and energy consumption.
- Ensure stable water distribution throughout the
irrigation network.
B.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Record operational data (daily flow rates, voltage,
current, running hours, and system performance).
- Complete logbooks, shift reports, and incident records.
- Report unusual patterns immediately (power drops, noisy
pumps, high vibration, overheating, leaks, etc.).
C.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance Support
- Inspect and clean pumps, filters, pipes, and valves.
- Assist technicians during maintenance and
troubleshooting.
- Identify failing components before they escalate into
major breakdowns.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for safety
and equipment handling.
D.
Safety & Quality Control
- Ensure the pumping station, reservoir area, and control
rooms are clean and safe.
- Observe electrical safety, mechanical safety, and
environmental safety regulations.
- Correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Comply with company safety guidelines at all times.
E.
Energy & Water Efficiency Monitoring
- Track power consumption and report excessive usage.
- Support optimization of water distribution schedules to
minimize wastage.
- Ensure pumps operate at the most efficient load levels.
3. Qualifications & Experience Required
To be considered, applicants must
meet the following criteria:
Educational
Requirements
- A2 Technical Diploma
or
- A1 Advanced Diploma
in one of the following fields:
✔ Electricity
✔ Electromechanics
✔ Mechanical Engineering
✔ Industrial Maintenance
✔ Any related technical field
Work
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating water
pumps, irrigation systems, factory utilities, or electromechanical
equipment.
- Experience with motor starters, electrical controls,
and VFDs is a strong advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, control panels,
and basic engineering drawings.
Additional
Requirements
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors.
- Willing to work night shifts, weekends, and public
holidays when required.
- A valid Category A driving license is an added
advantage.
4. Key Skills & Competencies

Working Conditions
This is a field-based, hands-on role
located at irrigation pumping stations.
Working conditions include:
- Outdoor and indoor environments
- Rotational shifts: Day and Night
- Standby/on-call duties during irrigation peak seasons
- Physical tasks such as walking, lifting, climbing, and
equipment inspection
- Exposure to machinery noise and electrical equipment
This role is suitable for candidates
