The Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC)
is a national institution under the Ministry of Health
(MoH) dedicated to improving public health through research,
disease prevention, and health promotion. RBC leads Rwanda’s efforts to enhance
evidence-based policy, strengthen the healthcare system, and promote innovation
for a healthier nation.
Through its Public Health Institute (PHI) Center of
Excellence, RBC supports applied research, surveillance, and
knowledge translation to improve health outcomes for Rwandans.
Job Summary
The Public Health Scientist
will play a crucial role within the PHI Center of Excellence, driving research,
innovation, and data analysis to strengthen national public health policies.
The role requires a professional with a strong research background and
experience in epidemiology, global health, or biostatistics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Research and Innovation
· Design
and lead high-quality public health research
aligned with national priorities.
· Collaborate
with academic institutions to foster research and innovation
in disease prevention and health systems.
· Publish
and present research findings in scientific journals and
international conferences.
B. Evidence Synthesis and Policy Support
· Analyze
and synthesize health data to guide policy and decision-making.
· Prepare
policy briefs, scientific reports, and evidence-based
recommendations.
· Support
the design and evaluation of national health strategies.
C. Capacity Building and Technical Support
· Provide
training and mentorship in research methods,
data analysis, and epidemiology.
· Mentor
junior researchers, fellows, and interns within PHI programs.
· Conduct
scientific workshops and seminars to enhance
public health skills.
D. Surveillance and Data Systems
· Strengthen
and evaluate public health surveillance systems.
· Use
R, STATA, Epi Info, DHIS2, and similar tools to
analyze national health trends.
· Collaborate
with RBC and MoH teams to interpret surveillance data and guide responses.
E. Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
· Engage
with ministries, universities, NGOs, and UN agencies
in public health initiatives.
· Represent
PHI in scientific, policy, and donor meetings.
· Contribute
to fundraising and partnership development for
public health innovation.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in one
of the following fields with at least 5 years of relevant experience:
· Master’s
in Health Sciences
· Master’s
in Global Health
· Master’s
in Epidemiology
· Master’s
in Biostatistics
Required Competencies and Key Technical Skills
· Strong
verbal and written communication skills.
· Deep
understanding of the Rwandan health sector.
· Excellent
analytical, statistical, and research skills.
· Ability
to coordinate multi-sectoral teams and projects.
· Knowledge
of public health databases and data management systems.
Languages and Behavioral Competencies
Languages:
· Fluent
in English (required).
· Knowledge
of French or Kinyarwanda is an advantage.
