Job Overview

The Lecturer (Coordinator) in Medical Education will participate in the design, coordination, and teaching of clinical sciences courses within the MBBS/MGHD program. The position involves teaching, mentoring, research, and continuous improvement of the medical education curriculum.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in shaping future physicians by providing hands-on clinical guidance, academic mentorship, and innovative teaching.

Key Responsibilities

 Teaching and Mentorship

  • Teach medical students in clinical rotations, science labs, and simulation center sessions.
  • Mentor and guide students in professional and academic development.
  • Provide feedback and assist students struggling with clinical or academic performance.
  • Ensure smooth preparation of learning materials, facilities, and schedules.

 Curriculum Development

  • Design, coordinate, and regularly update the clerkship curriculum in line with UGHE’s standards and global benchmarks.
  • Align teaching activities with clinical workflows and hospital schedules.
  • Continuously review and enhance teaching content for relevance and excellence.

 Student Assessment

  • Conduct student assessments, grade assignments, and evaluate professionalism.
  • Track academic progress and attendance using UGHE’s systems.
  • Support remediation programs for struggling students.

 Faculty Collaboration

  • Work with full-time and visiting faculty to deliver high-quality education.
  • Coordinate with hospitals and departments to align clinical teaching with academic goals.
  • Participate in faculty development and mentorship initiatives.

5 Program Logistics

  • Manage clinical rotation logistics, including transport, facilities, and placements.
  • Maintain open communication channels between students, faculty, and administration.
  • Ensure compliance with UGHE’s ethical and safety standards.

 Quality Improvement

  • Gather feedback from students and staff to improve the quality of clerkships.
  • Work with the Education Development and Quality Committee (EDQC) to review and improve curriculum delivery.
  • Support preparation of performance reports and evaluation data.

 Research and Scholarship

  • Engage in research projects and publish findings in reputable journals.
  • Mentor students conducting academic or clinical research.
  • Participate in regional and international conferences to share findings.

 Other Duties

  • Support other institutional initiatives and contribute to UGHE’s vision of equitable healthcare education.

Required Qualifications and Skills

To apply for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent degree earned within the last five years (East African region preferred).
Fluency in Kinyarwanda and excellent English communication skills.
Demonstrated passion for medical education and academic mentorship.
Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, Google Suite).
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to multitask, work collaboratively, and meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail and high professional ethics.
