Job Overview
This role is central to maintaining
Kigali’s high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, environmental protection,
and sustainable waste management. The successful candidate will work closely
with district officials, community stakeholders, private cleaning companies,
and operators responsible for keeping Kigali clean and green.
You will take the lead in designing
and implementing environmental strategies, monitoring waste collection performance,
and spearheading public hygiene initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Policy Implementation & Monitoring
- Develop strategies to monitor and evaluate national
hygiene, sanitation, and environmental policies across the City of Kigali.
- Implement City Council decisions related to public
hygiene, sanitation, and environmental conservation.
2.
Environmental Inspections & Compliance
- Conduct regular inspections of public institutions,
private facilities, and community neighborhoods to ensure hygiene and
sanitation standards.
- Coordinate with district and sector-level staff to
maintain compliance and improve environmental practices.
3.
Waste Management Oversight
- Monitor waste collection operators and street-cleaning
contractors; pre-approve reports and ensure performance standards are met.
- Collaborate with private cleaning companies to ensure
the city maintains its reputation for exceptional cleanliness.
4.
Public Awareness & Campaigns
- Organize city-wide campaigns promoting waste reduction,
recycling, and sustainable environmental management at household and
institutional levels.
5.
Greening & Beautification Projects
- Develop and implement greening plans, urban
beautification strategies, and public green space management initiatives
for the City of Kigali.
6.
Environmental Impact Assessments
- Conduct both ex-ante and ex-post environmental impact
assessments for infrastructure projects implemented by the City of Kigali.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations to
improve sustainability.
7.
Additional Duties
- Support the implementation of all City Council
decisions regarding waste management, hygiene, and environmental
protection.
- Perform any tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have one of the
following degrees plus relevant experience:
Bachelor’s
Degrees (3 years of experience required)

Master’s
