Partners In Health (PIH) — known locally as Inshuti Mu Buzima (IMB) — is looking for a dedicated and experienced Mental Health Clinical Coordinator to join their mission-driven team in Burera District.

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead, train, and mentor healthcare professionals while ensuring high-quality mental health services are delivered across hospitals and health centers.

Job Overview

The Mental Health Clinical Coordinator will oversee the MESH Mental Health (MH) program in Burera District, providing coordination, supervision, training, and technical support to healthcare teams.

You’ll work closely with the Ministry of Health (MOH), district hospital staff, and IMB teams to integrate evidence-based mental health interventions into primary care systems.

💡 Location Advantage: Based at Butaro Hospital, with around 80% travel to health centers across Burera — offering hands-on experience in community-based healthcare improvement.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Your core responsibilities will include:

 1. Clinical Supervision & Mentorship

  • Supervise and coordinate MESH mental health mentors and health center nurses.
  • Conduct field visits to observe patient-nurse interactions and guide clinical improvements.
  • Provide real-time feedback, case review, and recommendations based on national guidelines.

 2. Training & Capacity Building

  • Organize and deliver professional training on psychopharmacology and psychotherapy.
  • Lead workshops, mentorship programs, and collaborative learning sessions.
  • Integrate psychosocial rehabilitation interventions with ongoing clinical care.

 3. Quality Improvement & Data Management

  • Support health facilities in implementing evidence-based mental health practices.
  • Monitor performance indicators and ensure data accuracy with M&E teams.
  • Initiate quality improvement (QI) projects to enhance patient outcomes.

 4. Coordination & Reporting

  • Collaborate with pharmacists to ensure continuous availability of essential MH medications.
  • Facilitate coordination between hospital, health centers, and community teams.
  • Participate in regular meetings and produce detailed activity reports.

 5. Community Engagement

  • Work hand-in-hand with community health workers and the IMB MH Community Coordinator.
  • Promote awareness, reduce stigma, and strengthen community-based referral systems.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Applicants should have the following qualifications:

Minimum Education: A1 level in Mental Health Nursing or General Nursing.
Experience: At least 2 years in supervising or mentoring healthcare staff in mental health.
Knowledge: Understanding of evidence-based psychiatric care, public health systems, and patient-centered approaches.
Technical Skills: Strong computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Languages: Fluent in English, French, and Kinyarwanda.
Soft Skills: Excellent leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
Flexibility: Willingness to travel frequently (up to 80%) and work in rural settings.
