ASA International (Rwanda) Plc, commonly known as ASA Rwanda, is a deposit-taking Microfinance Institution (MFI) licensed by the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR). It was incorporated under The Companies Act No.103495622 in 2014 and began operations in 2016.

Since its establishment, ASA Rwanda has grown steadily — now boasting 37 branches across the country, serving thousands of small business owners, traders, and entrepreneurs.

The company is part of ASA International, one of the world’s largest microfinance groups, listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) and operating in 13 countries across Africa and Asia, including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, and India.

Position Details

·       Job Title: Branch Manager

·       Location: Kigali City, and across Western, Eastern, Southern, and Northern Provinces

·       Type of Contract: Open-ended (permanent)

·       Work Base: Field Station

·       Reporting to: Area Manager

·       Expected Start Date: Immediately / as soon as possible

Role Overview

The Branch Manager plays a vital role in the smooth functioning of the branch. This position involves leadership, operational oversight, and customer satisfaction.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring the branch meets its targets, complies with company policies, supports field officers, and delivers high-quality financial services to clients — primarily small business owners and women entrepreneurs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Branch and Office Management

·       Identify, secure, and maintain office premises that meet ASA standards.

·       Ensure cleanliness, safety, and proper maintenance of the office and staff accommodation.

·       Manage branch bank accounts, supplies, documentation tools, and signage visibility.

2. Staff Supervision & Human Resource Management

·       Oversee branch recruitment and onboarding of new employees.

·       Monitor attendance, performance, and conduct of all branch staff.

·       Conduct coaching and mentorship to improve team productivity.

·       Approve leave requests, handle grievances, and enforce HR policies fairly.

·       Uphold ASA’s code of conduct and ensure teamwork and discipline.

3. Business Planning and Growth

·       Set and monitor weekly, monthly, and annual branch targets.

·       Analyze client growth, loan recovery rates, and savings performance.

·       Plan and execute strategies to expand the client base and loan portfolio.

·       Develop marketing plans to attract new entrepreneurs and clients.

4. Loan and Savings Operations

·       Approve loans after reviewing business assessments and repayment capacity.

·       Supervise CRB (Credit Reference Bureau) checks before loan disbursement.

·       Approve savings withdrawals and monitor client exit processes.

·       Conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy and compliance.

5. Overdue & Bad Debt Recovery

·       Visit overdue clients daily to encourage repayment.

·       Identify at-risk clients early and implement recovery measures.

·       Maintain strong client relationships to prevent loan defaults.

6. Field Supervision

·       Visit at least two client groups daily and all groups every three months.

·       Participate in new group formations, training sessions, and community outreach.

·       Verify client savings, withdrawals, and loan records for accuracy.

7. Financial & Cash Management

·       Manage branch funds, including withdrawals, deposits, and fund transfers.

·       Adhere to company fund-holding limits and reporting protocols.

·       Approve branch expenditures and maintain all financial documentation.

8. Reporting & MIS (Management Information Systems)

·       Prepare monthly reports on branch performance, loan recovery, and finances.

·       Update branch operations in the AMBS system and cross-check with manual records.

·       Ensure system backups and maintain high IT security standards.

9. Public Relations and Networking

·       Build partnerships with local authorities, police, schools, health centers, and NGOs.

·       Represent ASA Rwanda at community events and financial inclusion programs.

·       Promote ASA’s brand image and its contribution to Rwanda’s development.

Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must have a strong background in microfinance and excellent leadership skills.

Minimum Requirements

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field.

·       Minimum 3 years of professional experience in microfinance, banking, or branch operations.

·       Proven experience managing a team and achieving financial targets.

·       Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

·       Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and loan management systems (AMBS preferred).

·       High integrity, accountability, and customer-focused mindset.

·       Willingness to travel and work in rural and field settings.
