As an Electrical & Mechanical Inspector, you will help ensure that every construction or remodelling project meets safety standards, electro-mechanical regulations, and national building codes. Your decisions will directly impact the safety of families, workers, and communities across Kigali.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Implement Inspection Strategies

Support the rollout of Kigali’s electro-mechanical inspection strategy, working closely with engineers, architects, and district teams.

Monitor Construction & Remodeling Projects

Inspect and verify whether construction work follows electrical and mechanical standards before issuing occupation permits.

Provide Expert Guidance

Advise contractors, developers, and property owners on technical requirements, safety measures, and regulatory compliance.

Investigate Violations

Follow up on complaints, investigate non-compliance cases, and explain regulations to the public in a clear and friendly manner.

Resolve Developer–City Disputes

Offer technical insights to help settle disagreements between stakeholders.

Submit Professional Reports

Prepare timely, accurate inspection reports to support decision-making.

Perform Additional Tasks

Handle any additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications (No Experience Required!)

You can apply if you hold any of the following qualifications, even with 0 years of experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Electrical Technology

Advanced Diploma (A1) in:

  • Electro-Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Electrical Technology

Diploma in:

  • Electrical Engineering

This makes the job highly accessible for recent graduates looking to enter the engineering and construction inspection field.

Required Skills & Competencies

To excel in this role, you should demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Clear and effective communication
  • Excellent time and resource management skills
  • Digital literacy and modern inspection tool proficiency
  • Good judgment and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to work well in a team

  • Knowledge of building electro-mechanical inspection standards

Languages

  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda & English
  • Good knowledge of French and/or Swahili is a plus

Exams & Assessment Stages

Shortlisted candidates will undergo:
