Key Responsibilities

1. Credit Appraisal & Underwriting

2. Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Management

·       Track performance of approved facilities and prepare early warning reports.

·       Recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.

·       Monitor portfolio concentration, collateral adequacy, and covenant compliance.

·       Support periodic portfolio reviews and stress testing exercises.

3. Client & Stakeholder Engagement

·       Collaborate with Relationship Managers to structure facilities that balance client needs with bank risk appetite.

·       Engage with auditors, valuers, legal experts, and regulators during due diligence.

·       Present credit recommendations to the Credit Committee and defend your analysis clearly and confidently.

4. Process & Governance

·       Support ongoing policy and process improvements for SME credit operations.

·       Maintain thorough documentation for audit and compliance purposes.

·       Uphold the highest ethical and governance standards in every decision.

Qualifications & Experience

·       A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.

·       A Master’s degree or professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CFA) is a strong advantage.

·       At least 8 years of experience in credit analysis, risk management, or corporate/SME lending.

·       A proven record of handling medium-to-large SME exposures (preferably above RWF 500 million).

·       Solid understanding of Basel/BNR regulations, IFRS-9, and credit risk modeling.

Core Competencies

·       Excellent financial analysis and credit structuring skills.

·       Strong financial modeling and ratio analysis abilities.

·       Proficient in report writing and executive presentation.

·       Deep knowledge of key SME sectors such as manufacturing, trade, agribusiness, and services.

·       Familiarity with collateral evaluation and legal documentation processes.

·       High integrity and professional judgment.

·       Analytical and critical thinker with problem-solving ability.

·       Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

·       A collaborative team player who can work across departments.

·       Confident communicator with strong presentation skills.

·       Curious, proactive, and forward-looking — able to anticipate risks and opportunities.

Performance Indicators

Your success in this role will be measured by:

·       The quality and accuracy of credit proposals.

·       Portfolio performance (PAR, NPL ratios within targets).
